Throughout all of the Star Wars movies, viewers are introduced to a variety of characters. From the heroes like Luke and Leia to the villains like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren, fans love these characters for their different personalities, idiosyncrasies and roles in the story.
As time goes on, even more characters are revealed through games, books and comics. One such character is Padme Amidala. However, not everyone loves this character as much as others do.
Some believe that she’s uninteresting or that her role in the movie doesn’t give her enough screen time. Whether you love or hate Padme Amidala, this article will analyze her role in Attack of the Clones as well as her importance to the franchise as a whole.
Basics of Padme’s Role in Attack of the Clones
Padme’s role in Attack of the Clones is not very large. She appears in a few scenes, but most of her time is spent at home with little to do. However, Padme’s lack of screen time does not mean she didn’t have an important role. In fact, her small role could be considered more important than if she had a larger one.
Padme was the daughter of the head of Naboo and quickly became queen at sixteen. Her position as queen gave her the opportunity to meet and befriend Anakin Skywalker, who would eventually go on to become Darth Vader.
Padme faced many challenges during her reign, including attempts on her life that were linked to Anakin Skywalker. Padmes importance stems from this introduction of Anakin for it foreshadows his transformation into Darth Vader and foretells the eventual downfall of the Jedi Order.
The Problem with Padme’s Character
While many people love Padme Amidala, others have a few issues with her character. One of the most common complaints is that she doesn’t get enough screen time or that she lacks personality. As we see in Attack of the Clones, Padme is only seen in three scenes overall and has very little dialogue.
And even though she has a major role in this movie, other characters overshadow her. However, what many people fail to mention is that this was done to make room for new characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Padme also makes appearances in other Star Wars movies, video games and books which add dimension to her character.
Her representation in those other mediums is much more complex than what Attack of the Clones provides. Some say they don’t like Padme because she takes away from other female characters like Leia Organa or Rey.
However, some believe it’s unfair to compare these two ladies who are vastly different from one another due to their upbringing and experiences.
What Does the Romance Between Anakin and Padme Reveal About Anakin?
One of the most prevalent themes in Attack of the Clones is Padme and Anakin’s romance. This is no mistake, as it helps to explore what makes Anakin, a troubled character with anger issues, tick. In the movie, Padme and Anakin are first introduced when he rescues her from an assassination attempt by an armed droid who was sent by Count Dooku.
We see that Padme is more than just a damsel in distress; she has an active role in politics (seen when she gives a speech about the Separatist threat) and is willing to take action when necessary. There are many instances of Anakin being attracted to Padme throughout the movie without her actually reciprocating his feelings for her.
This can be interpreted as two-sided infatuation or unrequited love on Padme’s part. It also shows that Anakin had trouble suppressing his emotions long before they were forbidden by Darth Sidious. We eventually learn that both parties have strong feelings for each other but can’t be together due to their obligations and responsibilities.
However, this makes their relationship all the more tragic because they can never act on their desires openly. In fact, at one point in the movie Padme even states that “nothing will ever come between us.”
Why is Padme Amidala Important?
Padme Amidala is seen as a strong woman throughout the Star Wars universe. In Attack of the Clones, she is sent to negotiate with Jango Fett over the creation of an army for Count Dooku. She also is one of the few people in the movie who can go toe-to-toe with Anakin and doesn’t back down when he tries to intimidate her.
Padme has a lot of power, which seems to come from her intelligence and leadership skills. She is also seen as a mother figure when she takes care of Anakin and Luke Skywalker in Attack of the Clones. She raises them like they’re her own children, but Obi-Wan Kenobi does not give his permission for Padme to train young Skywalker in anything other than Jedi arts.
Padme’s role in the story isn’t always well-liked by fans due to how demanding it can be on other characters at times or because it involves some uncomfortable scenes with Darth Vader (her former husband).
However, it’s important that younger viewers see how Padme uses her intelligence and leadership skills to get things done without backing down from anyone, especially when things are tough.
Why do people hate Padme?
First, Padme is a uninteresting character. She’s not strong or brave and she doesn’t have any qualities that make the viewer care about her. In the movie, she spends most of her time as a damsel-in-distress, waiting for others to rescue her. Second, Padme has little screen time in Attack of the Clones.
This makes it difficult for viewers to get invested in her character. Third, some people believe that Padme should have been killed off sooner rather than later like other characters in the Star Wars series.
Padme Amidala is an iconic character that has been a part of the Star Wars franchise for decades. Not everyone loves her as much as others do, but she has still played a crucial role in the story. In Attack of the Clones, Padme is a strong Queen who proves herself in a time of war and helps to keep her planet from being taken over by the Separatists. She’s also the mother of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Regardless of how you feel about this character, it’s hard to deny that she played an important role in Star Wars history.
