NBC Reignites GamerGate With Crazy Hit Piece on Discord; Links it to Alt-Right (REACTION)

NBC News released a crazy hit piece on gamers and the online communication app called “Discord” in an attempt to link online gamers to the “Alt-Right” group. Much of what was said in the video was either false or misleading. The first lie was to call the Charlottesville rally one for white supremacists, neo-nazis and white nationalists. Those groups were there, but they were not the only subversive groups there. AntiFA and Black Lives Matter were there as well. Along with regular people who wanted to support either side of the actual issue at hand, which was the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue from the campus of the University of Virginia.

An attempt was made to link Discord to the death of Heather Heyer, the woman who was killed at the aforementioned rally by a vehicle crashing into her. No evidence can be found of that. Discord in itself is no different than any other online communication app like Facebook or Twitter. It seems like they are being picked on in the piece due to being a small company that cannot really defend itself.

There was also mention of racism and hate being spread through voice chat while gaming. Another absurd and one-sided notion. Online gaming is generally competitive in nature, especially first person shooters. With millions of people playing online games at any point in time, it’s easy to capture someone on voice chat saying something racist or using foul language. But that same type of talk can be found at a local bar, a sports arena, someone’s home, the movie theater, and so on. It would not make sense to visit one bar and witness a person being racist then judge all bars on that one incident at that one bar, but that’s what this hit piece from NBC does.

Gamergate was also brought up here which should, at this point, be a dead topic, but unfortunately it is not. A list of “hateful” tweets directed at a woman involved with gaming were scrolled on screen with the hashtag #gamergate photoshopped on top and the name blurred out. They were made to seem as if it was a stream of tweets coming from tons of people but in reality, they all came from one anonymous person.

Lies on top of lies is all this piece had. Zero substance. It was simply a hit piece on gamers, and one that was both poorly done and received.
