The Foo Fighters frontman wasn’t on the bill for this year’s festival, but the former Beatles legend decided to invite him to perform alongside him for the classic tracks ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and ‘Band on the Run’.
Footage shows Grohl saying, “Hi Paul, how are you?”, to which he replies, “I’m good.”
The singer then turns the question to the crowd, who respond with an eruption of cheers.
Safe to say the festival-goers were delighted, while everyone at home has been left with some major FOMO.
“I am officially jealous of anyone at Glasto right now,” wrote one on Twitter, while another said, “Witnessing history here… absolutely unreal.”
Another said: “At 80 I was expecting fine things but @PaulMcCartney has pulled some exceptional treats tonight.”
Turns out it wasn’t the smoothest journey for Grohl, who explained to the audience: “Well I started on Wednesday, then the flight got cancelled, back to the airport Thursday and then the flight got cancelled, but I swear I would never miss being on stage with you right now.”
The fans were grateful to him for making the journey – especially since they got to see not one but two rock icons appearing alongside McCartney tonight.
Straight after Grohl’s performance, none other than Bruce Springsteen rocked up to perform ‘Glory Days’ and ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ with the 80-year-old musician.
As expressed by one Twitter user: “I’ve never experienced whiplash like Paul McCartney bringing on Dave Ghrol and then Bruce Springsteen back to back.”
And this wasn’t the only way McCartney made Glasto history this year, as he also celebrated his milestone birthday just one week ago, making him the oldest ever solo headliner at the festival.
It’s his second time topping the Pyramid Stage bill, having previously headlined back in 2004.
The 2012 track is titled ‘My Valentine’, which the Beatles star dedicated to his wife Nancy who was watching from the audience.
As he launched into the rendition, scenes from the video played out on the big screen showing both Nathalie Portman and the Pirates of the Caribbean star performing the lyrics in sign language.
Although Sir Paul didn’t make any comment on the actor’s recent legal battle against Amber Heard, some fans thought this was a sign of his support for the star.
