After a cruel, unnecessary dressing down from her boss, a clearer decided to leave her job. While leaving, she decided to leave quite the well-written resignation letter. Now, her parting message – and the message contained within – has gone viral online…
Cleaner Fires Back In Resignation Letter

Janitor and cleaner Julie Cousins had worked at a branch of HSBC Holdings, a British bank for some time. However, something had recently that made her quit. The 67-year-old worker said the final straw came when one of her bosses, also named Julie incidentally, yelled at her in front of the whole office. As you might expect, even after years of working, Cousins decided she had endured enough.
“I’ve left the job, Julie, after the way you dressed me down in the office,” Cousins penned in her hand-written resignation letter. “It was nothing more than aggressive and cruel, but that’s a reflection on your character, not mine.” Cousins decided to end her letter with a simple and incredibly true lesson: “So, going forward, please all of you remember, in a world where you can be anything, be kind. Becuase you are all no better than the cleaner.” How true!
Cousins’ son, Joe, also helps his mom in his job. When he saw the letter she left, he knew he needed to share it online.  “And this is why I love my mum,” he wrote in the caption. “She’s been cleaning banks for 35 years and today walked out with this lovely note left for that awful manager. Happy retirement Mum – always have the last laugh eh!”
Since then, Joe’s post has gathered more than 150,000 likes and share. Along the way, many have voiced their support for Julie Cousins…
Responding To Awful Manager

One user explained how their father had passed along a similar message, many years ago. “[My father] took the time to learn the names of as many of [the cleaning crew] as he could in his building & always gave them something @ Xmas,” they wrote. And, as it turns out, the user’s father’s goodwill and wonderful personality came to save him in the end. The user’s father’s had a heart attack in a company bathroom and the cleaning person saved them! “Always treat your colleagues with dignity, be they a cleaner or the CEO, you never know when you might need them to save your life!”
Another Twitter used stated that they always check to make sure their employees are behaving. “I always asked the reception staff how they were treated by the candidate,” they wrote, adding that many have failed the interview purely for being rude at the reception. Meanwhile, of course, many also pointed out that, especially after the coronavirus, everyone should have realized the importance of every worker. “Everyone should be valued no matter the role, position or status, it cost nothing to be kind,” is a perfect conclusion from one of the Twitter commenters.
Will the offending Julie suffer any consequence of her own? Only time will tell. HSBC has stated that they are trying to understand the issue between the manager and Cousins, but gave no further comment. Sadly this isn’t the first time has endured a terrible boss.
